Achieving the Collective Dream: Q&A with Elizabeth Sarquis of Jukko

Mobile games can improve the world.

That’s what Founder and CEO of Global Gaming Initiative Elizabeth Sarquis wholeheartedly believes. And after speaking with her, we believe it too. With the existence of organizations like Global Gaming Initiative – a cooperative that provides a suite of tools and services to make it easier for companies to produce games for social good – spending time on your mobile device crushing candy and saving eggs from pigs can actually make the world a better place. Adding to the goodness of mobile gaming, GGI is launching Jukko this year – a media company working in advertising where engagements from socially-conscious brands contribute to positive social impact.

We had the opportunity to speak to Elizabeth, and she graciously opened up to us about her passion to use technology for good, socially conscious brands she loves, and what she considers her superpower.

What are some brands that do good?

Elizabeth: Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes inspired me to create products that do good. Their initial offerings were simple, but it was the emotion that they evoked in people wearing them. The company did a fantastic job of bringing consumerism and social consciousness to the forefront. I also love Lunapads, a B Corp founded by two women in Canada that produces sanitary napkins that are washable (thereby producing no waste) and create the ability for all women to have this basic hygiene product. Patagonia is a true inspiration for me, as they have awesome products but have maintained a high standard to the environmental impact they have.

If you weren’t involved in the nonprofit, social good world, what would you do?

Elizabeth: I would be working on a model for education — how to best reach kids and what types of educational tools we could provide them. I’ve designed some facilities and would want to spend time creating the curriculum.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Elizabeth: Using different technology tools to create social impact. I love virtual reality and am looking forward to utilizing that technology for everything.
