Lynne Cox, Navigator of the Seas

Best known for her swim across the Bering Strait in 1987, open-water swimmer Lynne Cox does more than just cross bodies of water; she weaves people — and nations — together. Her swim to Russia was a diplomatic move, opening the US-Soviet Union border for the first time in 48 years. Similarly, Lynne swam across Lake Titicaca from Bolivia to Peru, enhancing the relations between the two countries. While we marvel at Lynne’s athletic prowess, it’s the message of her swims that really speaks to us.

An admirer of this superhuman(e) woman, we brought Lynne to Studio/E for our Hero Speaker Series. She shared with us her beautiful story, covering her decades-long athletic career as well as her childhood dreams and the obstacles she faced along the way. Learn more:
