Hero Speaker Series: Phil Hansen

November 14 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Phil Hansen

Phil Hansen was a burgeoning pointillist. He spent years creating beautiful art pieces out of thousands of tiny dots, each piece more intricate than the last. Until he developed a career-ending tremor in his hand and was no longer able to produce his art.

Crushed, Phil abandoned his dreams of being an artist. When, three years later, he learned he had permanent nerve damage, a magical thing happened: Phil decided to embrace his shake. He began producing again, using squiggly lines to create expansive art pieces just as impressive as his pointillist work. Using bigger materials, Phil lost sight of his limitation and his work began to flourish.

It was during this time that Phil realized embracing his limitation actually drove his creativity. “We need to first be limited in order to become limitless,” Phil says in his TED Talk, which has been viewed 2.3 million times.

Come learn to embrace your limits and release your creativity with Phil Hansen on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Through this interactive experience, we will identify our own obstacles and constraints and learn how to transform them into catalysts to creativity.

Applicable to everyone with a passion, Embrace the Shake with Phil Hansen will leave you inspired and ready to release your own creativity, unencumbered by obstacles.

This is a part of our Hero Speaker Series. Upcoming speakers are Priya Parker (June 5), Jimmy Chin (August 7), and Ryan Holiday (October 23).

Tickets: $75 for general public, free to active Studio/E members + 1 guest with code.

FAQs

Why is Studio/E hosting an event with Phil Hansen?

As students of exploration, we know how important it is to learn to navigate within boundaries. Phil’s physical limitations, while at first disappointing, ended up to be the catalyst to his creativity and, later, his career. By learning to embrace his limits and work within the constraints, he opened himself up to a world with great possibility. And this is a story we can get behind.
