Tour of Egypt’s Sunken Cities
November 15, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Studio/E is all about exploration into the unknown to uncover great possibility, and sometimes those discoveries are right under our noses. Or in this case, they’re just a bit off shore. Get ready for one of the greatest underwater archaeological discoveries of all time.
Nearly 1,200 years after the Egyptian port cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus sunk into the Mediterranean Sea, artifacts rescued from the ocean floor will be on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Art for an exhibition called Egypt’s Sunken Cities – and we invite you to explore them with us.
We are offering a co-curated tour on Thursday, November 15 with our friends at Mia of this exquisite collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including jewels, vessels and sculptures – some of which span 16 feet in height.
The 9,700-pound statue pictured above being raised out of Aboukir Bay, Egypt? It’ll be on display in the rotunda and visible from all three of the museum’s levels. This exhibition is unmissable, and we hope you choose to explore it with us.
