A wonderful thing happens when you replace the phrase “have to” with “get to.” It’s a small change, but this shift in Mindset takes you from a place of negativity to one of opportunity. For example, you don’t have to be reading this post right now; you get to read it. You’re viewing this on some sort of a device while connected to the internet. You can see, and you can read. For these reasons and more, you are fortunate!
Practicing gratitude like this is beneficial for many reasons: it improves your physical health, enhances empathy, reduces aggression, and improves your sleep, all according to Psychology Today. By shifting your Mindset from a place of “have to” to one of “get to,” you’ll see a change in the way you feel, and in turn, you will change the outcomes of your life (yes — Mindset has that kind of power).
As we enter the season of gratitude, we urge you to try swapping out “have to” with “get to” and see where it takes you. We’ll go first:
We get to come to work every day.
The Studio/E team is small but mighty. We sit in an open-concept office where conversation and collaboration are not only encouraged but inevitable. This has brought our team close and created a culture of trust. The novelty of our Clubhouse, which we moved into in April of 2017, has not worn off. Our space is inspiring and it is a great place for us to host events, further inspiring ourselves and our community. We get to come to work every day, and we are grateful.
We get to say “no.”
When we started thinking about Studio/E years ago, we had no idea it would look like it does today. We didn’t expect to be presented with so many opportunities or to be in a place where we can’t say “yes” to everything. This unique tension actually enables us to be selective about the individuals and organizations we work with, choosing to involve ourselves with those who are truly in alignment with our values.
We get to watch Ideas take root and blossom.
We are so lucky to experience our members pursue their passions and launch incredible Ideas. We recently received an email from Studio/E member Rosemary Ugboajah informing us that her Studio/E Idea is launching this month. Her Idea, ArtWest, is a social enterprise introducing the world to West African art, while also providing free art education and cultivating talent through art houses. ArtWest officially launches on November 29, 2018 at the Discovery Show and Fundraiser, and everyone is welcome. This is one example of the dozens we have heard this year alone.
We get to spend time with amazing people.
Our community is abundant with curious explorers and lifelong learners, each with an interesting story to share. Our members are the heart and soul of Studio/E. Above all else we are grateful for this season (and always) — it’s you.
